We begin Advent this Sunday. Where has the time gone? Seems like we had Advent just a couple of months ago. I had one man tell me that once you get into your mid-90’s it seems like Christmas comes every month. It must mean that you have the most fun in your 90’s because nothing makes time fly faster than having fun.
We begin this season of anticipation with hearing two voices: one female, one male. In our first Sunday we hear the voice of Mary, mother of Jesus. Her voice lifts up the need for a “Savior”. Those who are in power and have great influence have no need for a savior. Only the lowly, the poor, the powerless have need of a savior. And this is who the Christ Child comes to save. The sole mission and reason for the birth of Christ Jesus, our Savior is to lift up the poor, feed the hungry, to clothe the naked and to take care of each other in everlasting peace.
So we say in response to this call – the call of the One who comes for all humankind, “Come Lord Jesus Come!” Although we have the certain knowledge of what happens during the Christmas Season, we still anticipate. We anticipate the coming of the Lord and we await as expectant parents; excited, ready to explode with joy and filled with hope for a better world. It is Advent! Come see the Lord!
This blog consists of reflections written by the minister each week for the Sunday bulletin. We hope that you enjoy the musings!
