Here we are at another New Year. The possibilities for this year are endless. Just think of how much this congregation has changed in the last six months. Think how much it could change in the next six months. I don’t know about you, but the anticipation of what can happen is very exciting.
This month, I will be working with the Church Board to build and activate the various departments of the church. Why is this a necessary task? Because a church with a vital set of departments, committees or groups is a church that has a very significant chance of growth and of survival for the next ten years or more. Members that participate in the
functions of the church have an increased sense of ownership and are highly likely to maintain a steady sense of church
direction right where it should be—with the congregation. The more participation, the more likely the church will thrive. Almost all church begin to die when the functions of the church are controlled by a small group. When the actions of the church are spread out, then the church is able to weather any storm that might come its way.
Countryside is coming alive once more and is at a point where it can reach to new heights in its ministry. But it cannot do so without everyone participating. “Participating” can mean many things: you can volunteer to be part of a department and attend a meeting for one hour each month. You can volunteer to be part of a ministry of the church like the Backsnack program or help keep the shelves stocked for the Food Pantry. Or you can volunteer to pray for the church every day. —OR— you can volunteer to do all the above! Even better!
God is calling YOU! Will you answer?
This blog consists of reflections written by the minister each week for the Sunday bulletin. We hope that you enjoy the musings!
